English Language Theatre Workshop for years 5 and 6
The Cool Britannia 'TV' Day is aimed at years 5 and 6. It motivates, entertains and encourages students to use English. By employing a mixture of theatre based techniques and ELT exercises, the pupils learn through having fun.
The Cool Britannia 'TV' Day is available in Denmark - 2007/08
A whole day using English to create a 'TV' show. It starts with a fun drama warm-up, designed to practise speaking and listening skills. It progresses to look at TV genres and presentation skills with the whole group. Finally, the students work together to create and present their own 'TV' shows in a grand finalé.
The main emphasis is that the students have fun communicating and performing in English all day.
Students spend the first part of the day participating in games, role play scenarios and drama exercises to break down communication barriers.
After a break the workshop looks at presentation techniques used by television presenters. Students practice how to talk to the audience, interview guests and introduce their own TV show.
The final part of the day is spent on group work. Each group has the task of creating a "TV programme" in English. They are helped by myself and assistant teachers. Each group can choose to make signs, dress up or make props for a presentation at the end of the day.
The various "TV programmes" are;

The culmination of the day is the presentation of the various "TV programmes" to the whole group. Some teachers take the opportunity to video the event, enabling them to use the material for feedback analysis in class.
